1937 Dime
Mercury dime production was down somewhat in 1937 as compared to the 100 million-plus pieces that were struck in 1936, though plenty of 10-cent coins still rolled off the U.S. In fact, more than 80 million Mercury dimes were made in 1937, which is regarded by Mercury dime connoisseurs as a common year for the series. The Mercury dime is a ten-cent coin struck by the United States Mint from late 1916 to 1945. Designed by Adolph Weinman and also referred to as the Winged Liberty Head dime, it gained its common name because the obverse depiction of a young Liberty, identifiable by her winged Phrygian cap, was confused with the Roman god Mercury.Weinman is believed to have used Elsie Stevens, the wife of. 1937 Year Grade MS 67 Mercury Dimes (1916-1945).
